Pita Bread!

March 15, 2009

I decided that I should put some of my baking energy toward something other than sweets, so I’m trying my hand at some bread. Today I made pita bread from this recipe on Smitten Kitchen. It turned out great! The photos and instructions with the recipe are so helpful. I followed the mixer method, left the dough in the fridge overnight, and baked them on a baking stone. If you look at the recipe, you’ll see that there are instructions explaining what to do if the first bread doesn’t puff. I was thrilled that mine puffed on the first try and I didn’t have to use any rescue efforts. Here are some fresh out of the oven.

And here is the inside of the one I had for dinner. The pitas are so soft and tender.

I served this with Baked Falafel and Tzatziki Sauce sauce from Eat Real, making it a very bloggy meal! The falafel was delicious and we’re looking forward to eating it again tomorrow night. Mine turned out a little less than attractive, so check out the photo with the recipe. Both of these recipes are keepers!

  1. Hi Jill,

Your pitas look so yummy! I bet the falafel were very happy in there. 🙂 Thanks for the shoutout, by the way!

    All best,
    Sandy (Eat Real)

  2. Your pitas look wonderful!

  3. Wow! Your pita looks fantastic! I’ve never even considered making my own. Yours looks better than what I buy in the stores, for sure.
